Remission . . . such an awesome word! PDF Print E-mail

Hi everyone,

So we got the official call Friday night at 6 that Jon's tests came back fine.  It did however give us a heart attack when we saw NH Oncology on the caller ID.  It made for an extra sweet Father's Day though.  We met with the Doc on Monday and he used the sweetest word I've ever heard--Remission.  It's over thank God.

Jon is still dealing with some side effects and it will probably take 2-3 months before he's back at 80% energy wise.  But now it's just recovering from the Chemo.

Thank you all for everything!  We really can't say it enough and the words don't even do justice to how we feel.  You have all been so wonderful and your cards, notes, gifts, etc. have really kept Jon going.

All our love and thanks,

Kira

Hi everyone,

I'm terribly sorry since the last update--I've had to deal with some side effects.  I'm feeling okay.  Just terribly fatigued but met with Doc today.  No fourth cycle needed now until restaging is complete.  Over the next month I'll be getting CT scans, blood work, etc.  If CT comes back normal, I'll be cancer free.  If it comes back abnormal, back to Dana Farber we go.  So now the question is when do I start getting hair cuts again and my energy back?

Thanks again for love and support,

Jon "Forrest"

Cycle 3--Day 5 (and the Saga continues) PDF Print E-mail

Hi everyone,

Jon's been getting increasingly nauseous and tired but we're hoping he'll bounce back a little tomorrow afternoon after some additional IV and anti-nausea meds (and being off the chemo for 24 hours).  We found out yesterday that Jon would most likely have to do another Cycle much to our dismay.  So close . . .

Hopefully this time around when he's starting to feel better, his back and GI issues will not come back.  We'll post more next week.  Hope you all have a good weekend.  We hear it's supposed to be nice.

Thanks again for everything,

Kira and Jon ("Forrest")

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your kind words, support and prayers.  And once again, thank you all for your generous donations.  My wife will be unemployed on Friday (we squeezed an extra month thankfully).  We had our seventh anniversary last week as well--typical watched a movie and popped Popcorn while the kids slept and we drooled on ourselves.

I'm doing okay.  Once again, just tired for today and the nausea will start Wednesday while the headache will start Friday.  Last week I spent most of the week in bed due to back spasms and GI complications but I did get a good day or two before starting again.

That's it for now.  Keep all the positive vibes coming and comments--we love reading them (lol Blue Man Group).

Hi everyone,

Cycle 2 is completed--I'm moving up in the world!  Only nausea this time and sick once.  Four more allotted pills added to the repertoire.  More hair has fallen out but I haven't had to shave in a month.  I was just starting to feel better and now I'm laid up in bed because of a back spasm.  Yeah me!

Ultrasound showed another boy.  Great--two more testis to worry about (he's healthy at 21 weeks thankfully).

Thanks again to everyone to for all their prayers, support, cards, call, etc.  Keep 'em coming.

Jon

Cycle 2: Day 4 (one more day to go) PDF Print E-mail

Hi everyone,

Jon is on Day 4 of Cycle 2 with one more day to go for this round.  He's doing well but as the week goes on he gets more and more tired.  He'll need additional fluid over the weekend just like last time but the nausea seems to be a little better this time around (thanks to Emend).

It's a long week for him but he's always cracking a joke and hitting on the little old ladies.  They love it just as much as he does.  And everyone looks forward to having Jon as a patient or a chair mate.  A special thanks to Rob for covering his nightly Mesna drive for his meds.  Our support group both family and friends have been amazing!

Thanks for your thoughts and support,

Kira (the wife)

Hi everybody,

Funny timing--less than a week away from starting Chemo again and I'm feeling much better.  It was a rough two weeks and thank you all for your support.  I had a great time on Friday and sorry about the mask and hand sanitizer--we all know how filthy you people are.  I wish it could have lasted until Monday.  I'm sorry that I didn't get a chance to talk to everyone but at least hopefully I said "hello".

My hair is falling out and I'm gaining some of the weight back.  Not looking forward to Monday and my girlish figure is now destroyed.

Thanks again to everyone and more to follow later,

Jon Forest Mullaly

From the wife:
I can't even begin to express our thanks for last Friday.  It was overwhelming to see such an amazing turn out.  I'm still shocked at all the silent auctions, 50/50, etc. and the funds generated.  We are truly blessed with beautiful family and friends.  I can only begin to imagine the time and dedication it took to organize.  A special thanks to Rob and everyone involved!  Please give them a tremendous thank you from us.

Hi everyone,

Sorry it's been so long since the last blog.  It's been a rough week.  I did find a great weight loss program though--it's called Chemo.  21.8 lbs. lost in 7 days.  I did fine until Thursday.  That's when the GI track didn't want to play anymore.  I'm doing much better now and am looking forward to the benefit tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for your help and support,

Jon "Forrest"

Notes from the wife:  Jon will have to wear a mask and gloves tomorrow.  His WBC is dangerously low and he's susceptible to catching anything.  He'll need to get his own food and drink and his Sam Adams intake is limited.  Please just use common sense--if you've been sick or are feeling like you are getting sick, just give him a wave and chat with him from a distance (no licking, Mike).

Last day (for now) . . . . Day 5 (cycle 1)! PDF Print E-mail

Hi everyone,

Jon's been sleeping most of today after having a rough night.  The oral medication (mesna) lasted about 30 seconds in his stomach.  He needed to go to the hospital to get it via IV (thanks a ton, Wade!).  Luckily this is the last day of cycle 1.  He's off for 2 weeks before he has to start again and we are hoping he'll be feeling better by Sunday.  He now needs the med via IV going forward on chemo weeks and will also get fluid this weekend.

He is really looking forward to seeing everyone next Friday.  I think this is what's keeping his spirits up most besides talking to all of you and reading what wonderful things you have said here and on Facebook.  He is really enjoying reminiscing.  Cross your fingers for an uneventful night and his continued strength into next week.

All our love and gratitude,

Jon "Forrest" and Kira
